Treatment Options
Dry Needling
Dry needling, or trigger point dry needling, is a soft tissue technique applied by a certified therapist to locate and treat disorders related to soft tissue tension, damage, or dysfunction associated with myofascial trigger points. These trigger points are hyper excitable bands within a muscle which cause pain, tenderness, tension, and overall tissue dysfunction. The treatment involves the use of a monofilament needle to penetrate the trigger point creating a local twitch response, a small involuntary contraction, that results in desensitization of the trigger point and release of the muscle resulting in improved pain and function.
The goal is to restore normal muscle and joint function, decrease pain, improve strength and mobility, and enhance healing and recovery. It can also release tight muscles, decrease tension and prevent future injuries.
Myofascial Mobilization (Cupping + Graston/IASTM)
Graston/IASTM myofascial work is a specialized soft-tissue therapy that uses stainless steel instruments to identify and treat restrictions or adhesions in the fascia, muscles, and connective tissues. Practitioners use these tools to apply pressure and scrape over the skin in specific patterns to break up scar tissue, increase circulation, and promote healing.
Benefits of Graston/IASTM Myofascial Work:
- Reduces Pain: Alleviates chronic and acute pain caused by adhesions and tight fascia.
- Improves Mobility: Restores range of motion by breaking down scar tissue and releasing tight muscles.
- Speeds Recovery: Enhances blood flow and nutrient delivery to tissues, promoting faster healing.
- Treats Chronic Conditions: Effective for conditions like plantar fasciitis, tendinitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and IT band syndrome.
- Enhances Athletic Performance: Supports recovery from overuse injuries and improves flexibility.
Blood Flow Restriction (BFR)
Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) therapy is an extensively researched and heavily effective method of exercise with the use of a medical grade tourniquet to briefly and safely limit the amount of venous blood flow to the exercising limb while performing low load exercises. Research shows that limiting the amount of blood flow to the exercising limb can lead to increased muscle size, strength and endurance without having to load the region with excessive weight. This is key when recovering from injury as it allows the injured site to heal while preventing both atrophy and building muscle performance through the entire limb.
Who can benefit:
BFR can be used with many of our clientele both for physical therapy and training purposes, and it is appropriate for:
- People recovering from post-operative conditions including (but not limited to) ACL reconstruction, meniscectomy, meniscus repair, shoulder labral repair, Tommy John, and rotator cuff repair. Treatment can start as early as the first week depending on physician's discretion.
- Injuries include:
- Ligamentous injuries (ACL sprain, MCL sprain, inversion and high ankle sprains, UCL, non-operative labral injuries in the shoulder, shoulder instability)
- Tendinopathies (patellar tendon, achilles tendon, rotator cuff, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, etc.)
- Muscle strains
- All training and sports performance clients
Functional Range Conditioning
Functional Range Conditioning (FRC) is a mobility training system designed to improve joint health, increase usable ranges of motion, and enhance overall physical performance. FRC emphasizes controlled articular movements, progressive stretching under loads, and strength training to optimize joint function and enhance tissue healing and resiliency.
Key Components:
- Controlled Articular Rotations (CARs): Joint-specific exercises to maintain and improve range of motion while reinforcing motor control.
- Progressive Adaptations: Gradual load application to strengthen and lengthen tissues within expanded ranges.
- Active Mobility: Focuses on building strength and control in end ranges of motion.
Benefits:
- Improves Joint Health: Promotes better lubrication, nutrient delivery, and longevity of joint structures.
- Enhances Flexibility and Mobility: Increases both passive and active ranges of motion.
- Builds Strength in End Ranges: Reduces injury risk by fortifying joints and tissues against stress.
- Optimizes Athletic Performance: Enhances movement efficiency and power output.
- Rehabilitates Injuries: Aids in recovery by addressing functional limitations and weaknesses.
FRC is widely used by athletes, physical therapists, and fitness professionals to develop durable and adaptable movement patterns and speed the transition of neuromotor learning.
Postural Restoration Technique
The Postural Restoration Institute (PRI) system is a rehabilitation and performance approach focused on improving posture, breathing mechanics, and movement efficiency by addressing asymmetries in the body. PRI emphasizes the integration of the respiratory system with postural alignment to optimize muscular function and balance. The system uses specific exercises to retrain the neuromuscular system, reduce compensatory patterns, and restore natural, efficient movement.
Key Concepts:
- Asymmetry Recognition: Addresses inherent imbalances in the human body, such as dominant breathing patterns and muscular asymmetries.
- Breathing Mechanics: Utilizes diaphragmatic breathing to improve core stability and reduce tension.
- Integrated Movement Patterns: Re-educates muscles to work together in functional, balanced ways.
Benefits:
- Reduces Pain: Helps alleviate chronic pain by correcting postural imbalances and muscular compensations.
- Improves Breathing Efficiency: Enhances oxygenation and overall respiratory function.
- Enhances Movement Quality: Restores balanced movement, reducing the risk of injury.
- Optimizes Athletic Performance: Supports more efficient force production and movement mechanics.
- Rehabilitates Dysfunction: Effective for addressing issues like scoliosis, pelvic asymmetry, and chronic musculoskeletal disorders.
PRI is widely used in physical therapy, sports performance, and injury rehabilitation settings to create a more balanced and resilient body.

Pelvic Floor Therapy
Pelvic physical therapy is appropriate for anyone with issues relating pelvic health, for both women and men of all ages. A common misconception is that it is only appropriate women who are pregnant or have children; while that is a large percentage of the population with pelvic health issues, it can include anyone who has had abdominal or pelvic surgery, clients with pelvic, tailbone, hip, or back pain, sexual dysfunction, and/or incontinence (leakage) of urine or stool.
Pelvic care at ProMotion is more than just kegels. Performed by specialist Grace Hamilton, DPT, CSCS; care focus on all aspects of your pelvic floor, not just how strong it is. Depending on the issue, a variety of exercises can be prescribed. For some, breathing and stretching exercises can help release pain and tension. For others, the solution could be strengthening exercises that target the pelvic floor and hip muscles.
Common pelvic health diagnoses that are treatable with physical therapy include:
- Interstitial Cystitis
- Vulvodynia
- Dyspareunia
- Vaginismus
- Endometriosis
- Urinary and fecal incontinence
- Prostatitis
- Post prostatectomy
- Prolapse issues
- Constipation
- Pelvic pain
- Pregnancy/postpartum care
- Urinary frequency
- PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome)
- Coccyx pain
- Diastasis Recti
- Post-op pelvic/abdominal surgeries
